The GMQ Selects were eliminated from the PeeWee Provincial Playoffs on Tuesday night by the Prairie Storm Thunder. The final score was 10-3.
The game was hanging in the balance before it began as the GMQ Selects had to win by four more goals than the other team because of playoff regulations which hold that the team which has more goals at the series ends wins.
As a result of the first game, the Prairie Storm Thunder was ahead with four goals over the GMQ Selects, giving them a head start for their next game.
Sadly in the first period, the Prairie Storm Thunder already score three goals within the first three minutes of the game.
But as everything was becoming hopeless, there came a spark as Dustin Coderre scored a goal with assists from Evan Sebastian and Kendall Stoppler with seven minutes remaining on the clock. But the Prairie Storm would answer with another goal ending the first period 4-1.
The second period was devastating for the Selects as the Prairie Storm Thunder scored two more goals, making it 6-1 at the end of the second period.
It was basically over for them as they needed to score nine addition goals to hold their opponent’s score within 20 minutes of game time, if they wanted to advance to the second round of the provincial playoffs.
The third period came and the fans were still cheering for their little players, even if they were losing by large margins.
But the Prairie Storm Thunders didn’t back down as they scored two more goals within the first half of the third period.
There was still 10 minutes and 40 seconds on the clock as Brendan Litzenberger scored an unassisted goal to make the crowd go wild.
Georgia Kotylak also scored a goal at the five minute mark with assists from Jocelyn Mish and Thalon Kress.
But Prairie Storm would answer back with two more goals of their own, taking the game 10-3.
