Minor hockey players from 10 teams across Saskatchewan had the opportunity to watch Western Canada’s elite junior hockey athletes play live at a WHL game.
The winning teams chosen this year from more than 65 entries in the Western Hockey League Youth Experience Contest were from the communities of Dinsmore, Eatonia/Leader, Ochapowace, Preeceville, Glaslyn, Watrous/Imperial, Kyle, Eston, Kinistino and Tisdale.
The contest is held in conjunction with SaskEnergy Hockey Day in Saskatchewan, which organized its fifth annual province-wide event on Jan.21. Hockey Day is dedicated to celebrating and promoting the game of hockey throughout the province while also serving to strengthen community spirit.
“SaskEnergy congratulates the 10 winning teams from across the province and is pleased to partner up with the WHL to invest in Saskatchewan’s young hockey players,” said Don Toth, MLA for Moosomin, on behalf of the Honourable Dustin Duncan, Minister Responsible for SaskEnergy.
“We hope the shared hockey experience (was) a lot of fun, but will also help to strengthen and motivate them as individuals and as a team.”
The lucky teams that attended the Regina Pats home games Jan.20 and 21, were the Preeceville Novice Pats and the Ochapowace Novice Thunder.
“The Regina Pats (were) very pleased to partner with SaskEnergy for this year’s Hockey Day in Saskatchewan. It is important to our organization to not only give back to the Regina community, but to the surrounding areas of southern Saskatchewan as well,” said Brent Parker, president of the Regina Pats.
“Every year Pats players spend in excess of 2,000 man hours volunteering in and around Regina, and we are proud of our relationship with minor hockey in Saskatchewan.”
