The first period action sure surprised the crowd at the Grenfell Spitfires hockey game Friday evening.
It was definitely not what you would expect when the Q.V.H.L. second place team played the last place team.
The Q.V.H.L. last place team the Gordons Goldenhawks came to play hockey, at least for the first period.
After twenty minutes of action the score was 2-2. Trevor McNab opened the scoring for Gordons 43 seconds into the game. Grenfell replied twice with Scott Hardy making good on a pass from Jeremy Schierer and Braden Reiger.
The second goal came from Logan Dew when he scored his first of a hat-trick at 5:42. Kevin Pellietier scored the final goal for the period and game for the Goldenhawks.
From here on in it was all Grenfell Spitifres as the boys of winter scored six goals in the middle frame and added five more in the third to end the game 13-2.
Spitfire players picked up a lot of points this night with two players getting hat-tricks and one player scoring four goals.
Brett Cross started the scoring off for the Sptifires in the middle frame, lighting up the red light at 11:42.
This sparked the home boys on as Brennan Holloway blasted his way down to the other end and scored all three of his goals in the second frame.
Justin Wilchynski scored the other two goals of the period, on his way to a five point night.
Grenfell added five more unanswered goals in the final period to end the game 13-2.
Again Brett Cross started the scoring off after receiving a pass from Brennan Holloway.
Logan Dew added two more for his hat-trick while Justin Wilchnyski added two more for his four goal total.
Gordon Goldenhawks were zero for three in power plays but Grenfell made good on one of five.
It was pretty quiet in the old sin bin for the first two period with only four penalties called.
The third period was another story as ten penalties were called with Goldenhawks tagged for six of them.
