An eastbound semi truck rolled in the south ditch on Highway #1, just two kilometres east of Broadview early Thursday morning.

Broadview RCMP and the Broadview Fire Dept. responded to the accident at approx. 1:00 a.m. August 18th.

The driver of the semi was transported to the hospital in Broadview with undetermined injuries. He was later transported to a Regina Hospital for further treatment.

The Trans Canada Highway had one eastbound lane blocked till the semi was removed. The accident is still under investigation.

A crew of 15 from the Plainview Hutterite Colony, located just west of Elkhorn, Manitoba arrived to clean up the site Thursday morning.

“We are on call seven days a week, 24 hours a day,” said G. Waldner spokesperson for the Plainview Colony. “We do about 15 to 20 a year.”

Waldner said they are usually called by SGI, the trucking insurance company, the tow company, or RCMP to come and clean up the accident site and are paid an hourly salary.

The crew was working hard to clean up the site because “we should be home combining” Waldner said. “We have 1,000 acres of winter wheat to take off.”

More Plainview Colony members were coming to help after they did their morning chores.

The semi was hauling a full load of tomatoes.
