Grenfell -
This week, the churches of Grenfell will be taking some extra time to put aside the things that seperate them, and focus on what unites them.
"Years ago, there was a movement that started, that said, 'We need to emphasize what we have in common,'" explained Pastor John Taylor of Grenfell Apostolic Church.
The movement is called Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, which is meant to draw all Christian denomination churches together.
The event takes place all over the world, including the United States,
"It's really a global thing, where we just set a week aside and pray for peace and unity between Christian groups," Taylor said.
Each noon hour, Monday through Friday of this week, there will be a soup & sandwich at the Grenfell Pioneer Home, where churches will take turns bringing in soup and each sharing a different message associated with the theme.
"This year, it's just our common faith and being witnesses to that," Taylor said.
Another thing that unites the churches is the desire to help those in need. At last week's ministerial, it was decided that there was only one thing to do with the portion of the offering that is donated each year.
"With the crisis that's happening in Haiti, it was decided this year that we would split it with the Red Cross and different agencies for the work that's happening there," Taylor explained.
He explained why he feels the Week of Prayer is so important.
"So often in Christian circles, what we see is an emphasis on our differences. Historically, in some places, those differences have been very extreme," Taylor pointed out. "Within our Christian faith, we share far more than the minor differences between each other."
