The Broadview Kinettes are working hard and playing hard.
The not-for-profit service group has hosted a number of events and fundraisers in the community, and will let loose with their cabaret for a cause early next month.
In 2011, the Broadview Kinettes hosted a Family Fun Day with day and night golf and an inflatable playground. In December, the service group hosted the Christmas Family Dance, which was attended by about 90 kids.
Light up the Night Contest was also held, and prizes were awarded for the best (Christmas) decorated house. In February, there was the Poker Tournament of which all proceeds went to Telemiracle. A few of the Broadview Kinettes also volunteered at this year’s Telemiracle Telethon held in Regina.
The past few years Broadview Kinettes also hosted Ladies Nights, Halloween dances, Family Fun Days and helped out with other events like the Christmas Train, Meals on Wheels, Street Dances etcetera.
Donations were made to the Broadview Community Safetynet, AR-Reading program from the school, Broadview School Drama, Breast Health, Broadview Hospital, Spirit of Youth Award, Broadview Library and Telemiracle. The Kinettes also purchased a chairlift, insulin pump and scooter for community members in need.
Broadview Kinettes is a member of Kin Canada. Kin Canada is the Association of Kinsmen, Kinettes and Kin clubs and is an all-Canadian service organization made up of outstanding community volunteers. From coast to coast, members are enhancing quality of life in their communities by promoting service, fellowship, positive values and national pride. The Association boasts a proud 90-year history dedicated to fostering life-long friendships while ‘Serving the Community’s Greatest Need.
If anyone is interested in joining the Kinettes, don’t hesitate to contact one of the Kinette members: April Ottenbreit, Melissa Paul, Wendy Baker, Sandra Ecklund, Hayley Szakacs, Candace Rienks, Laurie Heisler, Sharon Fisher and Astrid van ‘t Westeinde.
The Broadview Kinettes will host Odd Man Out on June 9 at 8:30 p.m., at the Broadview Community Hall. Minors are permitted but must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. A portion of the proceeds will go to Telemiracle and community events.
