Four Grenfell Transit volunteer drivers were honoured at a luncheon on Saturday.
The luncheon was held at Chen’s Garden Restaurant by some grateful bus patrons who wanted the drivers to know that they are appreciated.
The annual event began eight years ago when bus patrons, Jean Babyak and the late Winnie Thrower decided that something had to be done for the drivers who give so much of their time and ask nothing in return.
At this year’s event Babyak announced this was the last year she was organizing the event.
The drivers volunteer their time to take passengers to different locations and functions and they also go above and beyond, performing various tasks such as picking up mail and newspapers for those passengers who have a difficult time doing it themselves.
The volunteer drivers being honoured were Raymond Taylor, Geraldine Taylor, Lloyd Gwilliam, and Neil Thiessen.
Babyak hopes that the annual luncheon is enough to let the drivers know their kindness has not gone unnoticed.
The first two busses were donated by Telemiracle. The current bus was purchased by the Town of Grenfell with a grant.
